Water and fire damage dispatch for northern Arkansas, from the White River to the Mississippi

Dispatch lines

Every town and ZIP on this line, and what each one covers

Coverage here is bought twice over: once by county and once by type of damage. A town can be on this list for water and absent for fire, or the reverse. This page sets out all five counties, all nineteen towns, the ZIP codes behind them, and which column each one falls into.

There is no form to fill in. The number routes by county and the crew calls you back directly.

The full list

Read the fourth column before the first three. Craighead County is a fire county on this line and nothing else, so a water call from any of its seven towns has no crew behind it. Baxter, Crawford and Franklin are water counties and nothing else, so a fire call from Mountain Home or Van Buren or Ozark has none either. Crittenden County is the single exception, holding both.

Addresses just outside a listed town but inside a listed county are still routed by county. Places like Midway and Lakeview near Bull Shoals Lake, Dyer and Rudy between Alma and Mulberry, Turrell and Crawfordsville along the Crittenden County highways, or Black Oak and Cash in Craighead County fall under the same county rule as the towns above them.

  1. You callOne number per county. The dispatcher takes the address, the ZIP and a short description of what happened.
  2. A local crew calls backAn independent restoration contractor already working that county rings you directly and sets a time.
  3. They look, then scope itNothing is priced from a phone call. The crew walks the building, takes readings, and writes a scope you can hand to your adjuster.

Why the counties are so far apart

There is no continuous territory here. Craighead and Crittenden sit in the northeast on and beside Crowley's Ridge; Baxter sits in the north-central Ozarks between Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes; Crawford and Franklin sit in the west on the Arkansas River. Jonesboro to Van Buren is most of the width of the state, and Mountain Home is not on the way between them.

That distance is why there are three dispatch lines rather than one. One line takes Jonesboro and West Memphis, one takes Mountain Home and the White River towns, and one takes Van Buren, Alma and Ozark. Each connects to contractors who actually work that region, and none of them is a switchboard for the other two.

Distances inside each region

Those numbers matter more in Franklin County than anywhere else on the list. Ozark is the northern-district seat and Charleston the southern-district seat, and the river between them is the reason the county has two courthouses. When the AR-23 bridge at Ozark and the AR-22 crossing west of Charleston both closed in the 2019 flood, the county judge pointed out that no one on the south side of Ozark could reach the hospital in Ozark, and extra ambulances were stationed at Charleston, Cecil and Webb City to cover the gap.

What is not covered

Counties adjoining these five are not on the line. Mississippi County's Buffalo Island towns of Manila and Leachville sit next to Craighead County's Caraway and Monette and share their history, but they are not covered. Marion County across Bull Shoals Dam, Sebastian County across the river from Van Buren, and Cross County west of Earle are all outside the list. Neither is the missing vertical negotiable: adding a fire call in a water county or a water call in Craighead County is not something a dispatcher can arrange.

Where a call falls outside coverage, the useful thing a dispatcher can do is say so quickly and let the caller spend the next few minutes somewhere more productive.

Counties, and what each is bought for

Every ZIP code on this dispatch line

All 45 ZIP codes below are on the coverage sheet this line dispatches for. The fourth column is the part people miss: a ZIP bought for water damage is not automatically bought for fire damage, and on this site most of them are not. Calls route by the number each block is listed under.

Before you call

My ZIP is not on the list but my county is. Am I covered?

Probably, for the type of damage that county is bought for. Routing is by county first. The ZIP list names the towns with their own pages, not the outer limit of the county.

Jonesboro has four ZIP codes on the list. Does that mean anything?

Only that the city is large and the postal boundaries divide it. All four are treated the same, and all four are fire coverage rather than water coverage.

Does the Crittenden County line cover the Memphis side of the river?

No. The Mississippi River is the county's eastern boundary and the coverage stops there. Marion, West Memphis and Earle are on the Arkansas side.

Is Big Flat covered, since it straddles two counties?

Big Flat sits mostly in southern Baxter County but crosses the Searcy County line. The Baxter County portion follows Baxter County rules, which means water damage only.

That is the shape of the job. The specifics belong to your building.
