Fire damage restoration for Caraway
Around 1912 there was a lumber camp here called White Switch, at the end of a rail spur the Chicago Mill and Lumber Company ran toward Blytheville. The town incorporated on September 14, 1923 and took the name of Senator Thaddeus H. Caraway. The timber left; the alluvial soil underneath it kept the town.
There is no form to fill in. The number routes by county and the crew calls you back directly.
The line carries fire damage in this county and no water coverage at all. Standalone mold work is outside it too.
From a lumber camp to a farm town
After the timber was cut, the rich ground it had stood on drew permanent settlement, and the early industries were what you would expect of that moment: a stave mill and, in the 1920s, an ice company. The 2020 population was 1,133. What remains from the timber era is the street pattern and a commercial block that grew up along the rail spur rather than around a square.

Buffalo Island, and which counties it spans
Caraway is one of five Buffalo Island towns, on the land south of Big Lake between the Little and St. Francis Rivers. Two of the five, Monette and Black Oak, are also in Craighead County. The other two, Manila and Leachville, are across the line in Mississippi County, which trips up more than one directory listing and is worth stating plainly.
Buffalo Island took the historic floods of 1927 and 1937 despite the drainage work the St. Francis Levee District had already done. That is genuine local history and it is also the part of the record this site cannot help with. Craighead County was bought here for fire damage only, so flooding, pipes and anything else on the water side has no line of coverage in this county.

October 31, 2013
A tornado on Halloween 2013 damaged roughly fifty buildings in Caraway and put several businesses out of operation. In a town of a little over a thousand people, fifty buildings is not a district; it is a meaningful share of the built town, and the commercial losses among them were the ones with the longest tail.
Storm damage and fire damage are not the same trade, but they meet at the same place: a building with its envelope opened, power lines down around it, and service being restored piece by piece. That combination is why this county's fire departments stay busy after wind events and not only during them.
Twenty-nine miles of highway
Caraway sits at the junction where AR-135 runs with a concurrency on AR-158, and AR-139 begins at AR-158 here and runs thirteen miles north to Monette. To reach Jonesboro you take AR-135 north to Lake City and then AR-18 west, twenty-nine miles in total. Of the small towns in this county, that makes Caraway the longest drive from Jonesboro and its seven fire stations.
Caraway Fire Department, at 304 East State Street, is a municipal department, one of five in the county, and it is what answers first at a 72419 address. It handles the first part of any incident here on its own, and the practical consequence for a homeowner is that a fire at a Caraway address has usually done more before water arrives than the same fire would have done in Jonesboro.
What a restoration job here involves
The building stock is mixed, from early commercial structures on the old rail line to postwar and later houses on the streets behind them. On the commercial side the recurring issue is the party wall and the shared attic space, which is how a fire in one storefront becomes smoke damage in three.
Work sequence is the same regardless: stabilize and close the structure, document before anything moves, decide surface by surface what will clean, get residue out of cavities and mechanical runs, then rebuild. Anything about how any of this affects the people who live or work in the building is a question for a physician.
